Motivation and Goals

Traffic accidents are among the biggest causes of accidental deaths in Brazil, and one of the main causes of these accidents is the driver falling asleep at the wheel. Many drivers have to drive for many hours straight to fulfill their itinerary and, in order to maintain their attention, they often use high amounts of substances.

To help prevent accidents caused by sleep, the project aims to collect information during the trip so that states of drowsiness can be detected and thus emit alerts to wake them up. In addition, it provides data so that companies that hire these drivers can make better decisions about which routes to provide for which driver.

The Project

The idea of the project is to use a camera that will take pictures of the driver and detect the level of drowssiness through eye and mouth movements. A Raspberry Pi 3 will be used for image processing. In addition, the system will have a buzzer for sound alerts and GPS for location.

A website will also be created where the manager will be able to view panels with the trips made and also predictions of the drivers.
